Taste ready to spice up the Holidays at Hennessys

BMS is delighted to host our first annual Holiday Concert at Hennessy’s to benefit the Toys For Tots Foundation of Greater Boston on Thursday, December 3. Each day this week, we’ll catch up with of the performing bands to get their thoughts on the holidays: everything from gifts to carols and egg nog. Besides asking what to expect from their set on Thursday, we get their opinion on the age old question of who wins in a fight: Santa Clause or Frosty the Snowman.

Today, we catch up with James Keefe of Taste, who were a finalist at the 2009 Boston Music Spotlight Battle of the Bands. Here’s what he had to say:

BMS: What’s been you all-time favorite holiday gift?

James Keefe of Taste (JK): Talking PeeWee

BMS: What about the worst gift you’ve ever received?

JK: Bart Simpson Fanny Pack

BMS: When do you start shopping for presents?

JK: Usually the day after Christmas since we don’t do our family exchange till a couple days after and I’m always looking for bargains.

BMS: What’s been the best gift you have ever given someone else?

JK: I gave my brother a cd player walkman (pre iPod era).

BMS: Egg Nog: delicious or disgusting?

JK: Delicious…(Spiked?)

BMS: Who would win in a fight – Santa Claus or Frosty the Snowman?

JK: Santa, his boots would wreak havoc on Frosty dough boy mid section plus he’s got a gang of ginormous deer in his entourage.

BMS: Christmas Carols: A great way to get into the season or annoying background noise while shopping?

JK: Carols are great. Especially when you surprise people at the door and your group can sing harmonies solid. Deck the Halls With Fa la la la la la la la lahhh….Flavor!!!

BMS: Any favorite holiday traditions that you spend together as a band?

JK: Lev usually makes a spicy dish with absurd amounts of MSG in it, Dave makes groovy gravy stirring it smooth with his drum stick, Erik makes “The Humus of Taste” which is to die for, and James usually agrees to set the table, do the dishes and of course pour the drinks. We Taste holidays, we don’t waste holidays.

BMS: What are you hoping Santa brings you this year?

JK: A winning lotto ticket so we can pursue Taste full time.

BMS: What can we expect from your set on Thursday?

JK: Straight Christmas Fire like a Yule Log.
